With QB Phil Petty graduating, Corey Jenkins at first appeared to be have the starting job in 2002. Not so fast, says Lou. Jenkins may move to defense or play some role in the running game rather than line up behind center. Apparently his passing numbers haven't impressed the coaching staff. Dondrell Pinkins performed well when given the opportunity and proved more of a threat with his passing. Look for him to share if not win the job the job in spring practice.
The running game should be phenomenal next year with Watson and Pinnock returning. Ryan Brewer is always a threat to run the ball as well.
The defense bent on many occasions and flat out broke in the Florida game this season. Should Charlie Strong return next year, look for him to mix things up more next year. Cleveland Pinckney was surely missed this year and Kalimba Edwards will be just as sorely missed next.
The special teams were solid in 2001 but not spectacular. Watson broke a couple of kickoffs for long returns but unfortunately didn't make it into the opponents' end zones. The kicking game showed tremendous improvement and punting has improved but is still not where it needs to be.
Carolina fans had much to celebrate this season and turned out in full force for both home and away games - and set some attendance records along the way!!
Lou, you did it again. From a 7-4 regular season to an 8-3 record this year - the Cocks continue to pick up speed. What will 2002 hold? SEC East title? Conference championship? BCS bowl bid? National title? Stay tuned!!! GO COCKS!
